Here is a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with just under 3,500 miles on it for $49,950. This thing had an MSRP of around $80,000...LAST YEAR!! A 177 mph sedan with Poseidon’s favorite dining utensil plastered all over it is nearly half off before most buyers finish up the 24 months of their lease. Crazy thing is that whether these things have 3,000 miles or 30,000 miles has zero impact on the prices from what I’m seeing.

Is there a better executive sedan deal than this 404 hp 2015 Maserati Ghibli S AWD?

Some context:

2017 Jaguar XF 35t (lowest trim available): $50,490 with 340 hp V6.
2016 BMW 528i (lowest trim available): $50,200 and 240 hp I4.
2016 Cadillac CTS 2.0L Turbo (lowest trim available): $45,560 and 268 hp I4.

Personally, if I’m looking for a “new” executive sedan for $50k, I think I’m shopping Maserati despite its oh so numerous flaws.

No one’s buying an Italian car for reliability or practicality. It’s to go fast and look amazing. And that makes this Maser a winner for 50k.

If you want to be best friends with your mechanic then definitely buy one.

“Oh no, I have to take my Ghibli with free full factory warranty to the dealer and now I’m stuck in this old Quattroporte/new Levante/new Ghibli loaner car! Curse my life!!”

It’s boring and ugly. Sub par interior as well.

I think I'd get one with 20,000 imaginary dollars.

For that money I’d buy an SS.

It depends on what your definition of ‘better’ is.

If it’s a company that’s buying it for employees, better will mean better reliability, lower depreciation, fuel economy, etc.

So from a company perspective, a Lexus CT200h could likely be better.

And you can get a lightly used 2015 CT200h for just under $23,000... less than half the cost of the Maserati Giblet!!! And it gets better fuel fuel economy which makes it an even better value proposition!!!

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/…

So clearly you need to get the CT200h instead of the Maserati Giblet!

:-D

Did you know those are now the same price as a G8 GXP? I meant to make a post about that but keep getting side tracked on cargurus and craigslist.

I’ll just say this: there are Ghiblis out there that are ex-rental cars. They were owned by Enterprise, I saw them at the airport. I never drove one, but I did see a guy get into one once.

Let out a lively blue haze on startup, and people had only been beating on it for 20,000 miles.

That’s true about all fleet cars. That’s why you never believe the people that say it’s OK to buy one...no!

But you never expect it to be a Maserati. People would never expect a rental company to buy that caliber of vehicle, which makes the cheapest Ghiblis on the market all that more dangerous a prospect. A poverty spec Dodge Challenger, that’s a given. Nobody but rental car companies buy those. A base model Maserati? That casts real doubt because there are people out there who would have bought that at a dealer. You just don’t know.

All true at nearly $80k. I would say for $50k and one year old, it is far more interesting than a 4-cyl 5-series and has a better interior than a CTS regardless of spec. Usually ugly cars grow on you with ownership and I love odd looking vehicles as much as great looking ones.

Didn’t think about it from that perspective. Not bad though.

I’ve seen $60k Kia K900s at airports as well as 911s and M6s. I guess it depends on the area since I always assumed these were mostly rentals (any that did over 10k miles in a year anyways...).

I thought those things were like a hybrid GTI. I was very disappointed and yet still curious to stance one...

I saw, and I’m working on something. My top automotive interests are Maserati, Jaguar, then Kia. I’ll finish up the post sometime soon (unlikely today or tomorrow though...)

They’re supposed to be shit, but for that price it’s a chance I’d be willing to take.

I think for 50 grand I’d look for the nicest CPO Jag XJ (current model) that I could find. I didn’t like it from the initial photos, but then I saw one at the NY car show - so nice looking in the metal.

These are amazing values and the sound alone is worth the price. With some warranty balance, probably a good buy to drive for a few years and dump before the coverage is up.

That's a sexy car. I have always thought those were nice looking vehicles for sure. And for nearly half off MSRP one year later, yep.

Not to mention some of the ownership demographic probably isn’t the most careful. I saw one of these the other day letting out a little black smoke at heavy throttle (back to the ownership thing, of course heavy throttle in crowded suburban traffic). These might be selling to BMW/Audi bros who have blindly stumbled into a little more money, or found a sweetheart lease.

These are in European rental fleets too, last time I was in Stuttgart I was offered one as a (paid) upgrade. For 100 Euro/day I chuckled and passed.

I'd wait a few years and get the Alfa Giulia. Same platform same plummeting resale, lower floor.
